EXCESSIVE HAIRGROWTH

We speak of excess hair when too much and too thick hairs grow in places where normally no or only thin hairs grow. There can be several causes for excessive hair growth

  • Pregnancy. During your pregnancy, a woman produces extra sex hormones (androgens). This can cause you to develop hair growth in places where it normally wouldn't. After pregnancy, these hairs usually fall out again.

  • Medication. There are a number of medications that can stimulate hair growth.

  • Menopause. During menopause, the hormone balance changes, which can cause unwanted hair growth.

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Excessive hair is one of the characteristics of this syndrome.

  • Medical condition such as; hypertrichosis or hirsutism. They usually occur individually, but can also occur in combination.
